F.A.Q.

Answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about survival foods.

How much food will I need to feed two people for 30 days?

When you’re figuring out how much food you’ll need, keep in mind that the average adult eats between 1,500 to 2,000 calories per day. That means that two people eat 3,000 to 4,000 calories per day. So, for 30 days, have a food supply on hand around 120,000 calories.

Can I store my rice, beans, or water in recycled bottles?

A lot of people wonder if storing food in recycled bottles is a practical way to prepare. Unfortunately, you don’t want to do this since the material of the plastic bottles can react with the food and cause it to go bad.

About how much water do I need to figure per person, per day?

While it can be tempting to try and pack a lot of water, it’s usually one of the heaviest items in your backpack or survival kit. Cut back on it as much as possible and plan on including around 1 liter per person every day. Make sure and include NaDCC-based water purification tablets in your kit or backpack.

How often do I need to switch out the food in my survival kit so it remains fresh and useable when I need it?

Luckily, if you buy dehydrated foods, you’ll find that it can have an incredibly long shelf life. Some foods can even last up to 25 years. You’ll find an expiration date clearly marked on all of our dehydrated food so there’s no second guessing how long it lasts.

Once I’ve received all my survival food, where is the best place for me to store it when I am not using it?

The best place to store your survival food in your home is going to be a cool, dark, and dry place. Avoid putting it in a shed or garage, if possible, because those places can get very hot during the summer.

What is the best way to store water long-term?

One of the best ways to store water is just using a 5-gallon bucket and putting a lid on it. If you don’t store it that way, it can also be maintained in a food grade bottle. Keep a lid on the water at all times to maintain freshness so it’s ready to drink when you need it.
